Colorado Springs School District 11Colorado Springs, COLighting Retrofit and Lighting Controls Installation
Project DescriptionFinancial Energy performed a comprehensive lighting audit for 18 schools and then completed the lighting retrofit and installation. The combined area of the facilities totaled over 450,000 square feet and included the retrofit of over 19,500 fixtures. This project provided for the removal of existing T-12 lamp fixtures with standard ballasts and replacement with new surface or pendant mounted fixtures with T-8 lamps and electronic ballasts. Also, in some facilities, T-12 fixtures were retrofitted with T-8 lamps and electronic ballasts. The retrofits included the use of reflectors to allow delamping of 4-lamp fixtures to 2 lamps, 2-lamp fixtures to 1 lamp, 3-lamp fixtures to 2 lamps, and 6-lamp fixtures to 4 lamps, and tandem wiring of 1 and 2 lamp fixtures. The retrofit also involved installation of compact fluorescent lamps to replace incandescent lamps. Financial Energy also converted U lamp fixtures to 2-foot, straight-tube T8, converted 8-foot fixtures to 4-foot, and replaced incandescent exit signs with new LED exit signs. High efficiency fluorescent fixtures were used extensively in gymnasiums with dimming systems installed in the elementary schools’ multipurpose rooms. Occupancy sensors were also installed in appropriate areas to further increase energy savings. Financial Energy worked with an EPA approved recycling and incineration company to dispose of 27,000 lamps and 16,500 ballasts. The project was divided into multiple phases over a 5 year period. The information below represents all of the phases combined.
