Energy Demand Controller

Project Description

Financial Energy installed a demand controller at a Boston Market store in Milwaukee, WI. The controller received the building�s kW demand in real time from the electric meter. As the restaurant approached a pre-set kW limit, the controller began it�s programmed shed sequence. Loads were prioritized and shed only as necessary to maintain the desired kW level. The controller was set to limit peak demand by cycling:

  1. the first and second stages on the kitchen and dining room roof top air conditioners (RTU�s);
  2. walk-in freezer and walk-in cooler compressors;
  3. and the ice machine.

We installed a maximum temperature thermistor in the coolers, freezer and dining room to over-ride the cycling program should temperature limits be exceeded at any time.
