Energy Demand Controller

Project Description

Financial Energy installed a demand controller at a Boston Market store in Milwaukee, WI. The controller received the building’s kW demand in real time from the electric meter. As the restaurant approached a pre-set kW limit, the controller began it’s programmed shed sequence. Loads were prioritized and shed only as necessary to maintain the desired kW level. The controller was set to limit peak demand by cycling:

  1. the first and second stages on the kitchen and dining room roof top air conditioners (RTU’s);
  2. walk-in freezer and walk-in cooler compressors;
  3. and the ice machine.

We installed a maximum temperature thermistor in the coolers, freezer and dining room to over-ride the cycling program should temperature limits be exceeded at any time.
