Utility Company Demand Response
Controller
Purpose
- Allows for demand response (load shedding) when signaled by a
utility company demand shed event.
- Reports actual demand reduction in real time. Reports kW, kWh and
$’s saved per shed event.
Function
- Reduces kW Demand:
- Limits coincident operation of RTU compressors and other electric
equipment as part of a demand response system.
- Also Saves kWh: During un-occupied times remotely controls existing
thermostats conserving gas and electric energy.
Features
- Intelligent selection of equipment to dispatch.
- Self-tuning– automatically adjusts parameters to eliminate any
impact on facility operation.
- Real time load response verification.
- Logs kW demand and energy information from existing building
electric meter (kyz pulse meter needed).
- Self generated reports present load dispatch event kW and kWh
savings.
- Installs easily in any brand of air conditioner.
- Controls generators to meet shed goals.
Operation as a utility company demand response controller
- Upon receiving an internet signal to shed load the controller time
stamps and logs the building kW.
- Polls space temperatures and selects RTU’s to cycle that are at low
range of temperature dead band.
- Cycles to achieve a set demand reduction goal but dynamically
modifies controlling sequence and duration based on pre-set space
temperature limits and outdoor air temperature.
- Upon an internet signal ending the load shed event the Controller
returns the RTU’s to their normal operational schedules.
Target Markets
- Small commercial buildings
- Retail facilities
