What is an Emergency Power System?

Financial Energy Management, Inc. uses Generac Power Systems. The Generac Guardian prepackaged emergency power systems is a state-of-the-art electricity generating system designed for small businesses. During a power failure, the generator starts automatically, within seconds it begins producing electricity for your business. You don't even have to throw a switch.

Permanently installed outdoors, a generator is no more conspicuous than a central air conditioning unit. The Guardian emergency power system will run on liquid propane or natural gas, so it can be linked directly to a reliable fuel supply.

Why Should You Own an Emergency Power Systems?

In the first few seconds of a power outage, your generator powers up automatically and begins supplying electricity to operate your sump pump, heating or air-conditioning, computers, appliances and security systems. You don't even have to be there to react, the generator senses the problem and reacts for you.

A blackout could continue for hours. You can consider your generator as an emergency power source for as long as the outage lasts. When utility power is restored, you'll have an automatic transition back to that power source.

How Does the System Work?

  1. An Automatic Transfer Switch monitors incoming voltage from the utility line.
  2. When utility power is interrupted, the Transfer Switch senses the problem and signals the generator to begin supplying electricity.
  3. The electrical circuits in your business are automatically disconnected from the utility power line and reconnected to your generator which continues to supply electricity.
  4. When utility power is restored, the electrical circuits in your business are automatically disconnected from the generator and reconnected to your utility power line.

What Size System do I Need?

Generac II emergency power systems are available in a variety of sizes from 5kW - larger units up to 1000kW are also available. Your choice will depend on the wattage requirements of your essential business equipment. A 20% safety factor is recommended to support your electrical appliances with induction motors, which require 2 to 3 times the listed watts to start. Additional capacity also will allow you to add more circuits in the future.
